How to Set Up Your Router Step by Step

Setting up your router is easier than it looks. With your Floutel Wi-Fi 6 equipment, all you need to do is connect it properly, access its panel from your browser and set your network name and password. This guide walks you through it step by step so you can have it ready in just a few minutes, no technical jargon.
What you need before you start
Gather the basics and the process will go smoothly. You don’t need to be an expert:
- Your Floutel router and its power cable.
- The network cable (Ethernet) included with it.
- A phone or computer to access the settings.
- The access details printed on the router’s sticker: the default network name and password.
Connect the router step by step
Follow this order to avoid startup issues:
- 1. Position the router in a central, elevated, well-ventilated spot, away from closed cabinets and other electrical devices.
- 2. Connect the fiber. Plug the cable coming from the fiber wall socket into the corresponding port on the router.
- 3. Plug it into the mains and switch it on using the power button.
- 4. Wait for it to start up. It will take a minute or two; the lights will stabilize and the internet light will turn steady.
- 5. Connect to the network. Use the network cable or look for the Wi-Fi network using the name and password from the sticker.
Access the settings panel
From the router’s panel you can customize your network. To log in:
- 1. Open your browser on a device connected to the router.
- 2. Type the access address into the address bar. It’s usually something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1; you’ll also find it on the router’s sticker.
- 3. Enter the admin username and password shown on the device.
- 4. Go to the wireless or “Wi-Fi” settings menu to start adjusting your network.
Recommended settings
Network name (SSID) and password
Personalizing your network makes it easier to recognize and more secure:
- Choose a network name you can identify without giving away personal details.
- Set a long password, with uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and a symbol.
- Use the most up-to-date encryption available: WPA3, or WPA2 if that’s not an option.
- Save the changes and reconnect your devices with the new password.
2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands
Your Wi-Fi 6 router broadcasts on two bands. Knowing the difference helps you get the most out of your symmetrical fiber:

You can keep both bands active under the same name so each device picks the best one at any given moment.
Updates and security
- Turn on automatic firmware updates if the panel allows it.
- Change the default admin password to one of your own.
- Check the connected devices from time to time and disconnect any you don’t recognize.
Connect your devices to the new network
When you change the network name or password, your devices will lose the connection and you’ll need to reconnect them. It’s quick:
- 1. Find your network in the list of Wi-Fi networks on each device.
- 2. Select it and enter the new password.
- 3. Forget the old network if it still shows up, so devices don’t try to reconnect to it.
- 4. Start with the important devices: phone, computer and TV; the rest can wait.
If a device doesn’t connect on the first try, turn it off and back on: that’s usually enough for it to pick up the new network properly.
Improve coverage throughout the house
A well-configured router performs better when it’s well placed. To get a strong signal into every corner:
- Place it in a central area of the home, not at one end.
- Keep it in the open, without thick walls or metal cabinets around it.
- Use the 5 GHz band near the router and 2.4 GHz for far-away rooms.
- If the home is large or spread over several floors, consider a repeater or mesh system.
Common setup issues
- The panel won’t open: confirm you’re connected to that router and try another access address from the sticker.
- You don’t remember the admin password: many routers can be factory reset with a button; you’ll then need to set it up again from scratch.
- Wi-Fi doesn’t show up: wait for the router to finish starting up and check that the band is enabled in the panel.

Once it’s set up, write down your network name and passwords somewhere safe. If you change devices often, leave both bands active along with automatic updates: that way your setup stays fast and protected without you having to keep an eye on it.
